A Little About Me

About Me In a nutshell, I am a well-prepared and well-equipped, adventurer, inventor and geek. I am an organic cheeseitarian. A hobbyist chef, who cooks delicious food and homebrews unique code. I equip my self well in all things. Very well prepared for anything. A geek's geek. A chill dude. A tinkerer. A life's adventurer.

I Inventor...
I have carry around a recorder to record all my ideas, and I do them. My inventions are born out of circumstance. Unpredictable yet regular. My brain does not retain what it attains unless I record it, that I may recall it again. I always write down, draw out, or video record my ideas the moment they come to me. I give ideas -both the good and the silly- the honor of having presence in physical reality, and as thanks, more ideas come to me.

My Name Is One-of-a-Kind...
I am one of only 70 or so people anywhere in the world with the last name Melroe. And I am the only Kieran among them. Thus, I am the only human alive who is named Kieran Melroe.

I am a Survivalist... I always have a backup plan, and am equipped to survive for the long-haul. I am prepared for anything. I am a street medic who always has his medkit. Even day-to-day, I am equipped for anything, and I help people out a lot day-to-day. I know who I will find and where I'll go when shit gets real. I will survive.

I am an Adventurer...
Life is a series of adventures, punctuated by sex and sleep. My path in life will take me many places. I want to study and experience each class, mode, school of thought and creed. To find their wisdoms, their insights, and gather together their fragments of greater truth.

I love to travel. I appreciate and explore the small adventures that life provides. I prefer to walk or bike most places. My bike is nicer than many cars. Especially Olympia cars. Nothing quite makes me feel alive like getting a bunch of errands done on foot or on a self-powered vehicle. I like to take a enough time to get tasks done right. That's why I like Macs, gear from REI, and organic food so much: take a little more time and get it done right the first time, and it'll be cheaper in the long run.

I Fix Things...
The earth has limited resources, and we can't run a linear manufacturing process forever. Making things last longer, and making them to be able to be repaired easier later is the future. I own and operate my own computer repair business, Olympia iPod and Mac Repair. I also modify and repair all sorts of gear, electronics and hardware under the trade name Dark Poet Custom Mods. If you cant get it fixed when it breaks, you never really owned it to begin with. I despise planned obsolescence, and am doing something about it!

I am a god amongst machines, possessing the knowledge and skill to bend any piece of technology to my will absolutely

Free as in Freedom:
I support and enjoy independent music makers and public radio. I tend to only download copyleft/creative-commons/open music. I strongly believe in open music and free software. Anything I code is GPL'd or Copyleft. Corporate music sucks ass, because things made for the love of making are always of better quality and soul than things made for corporate/industry interests. Fuck the music industry. Fuck Hollywood.

My Thoughts on Food...
I really love good food. And making food. I eat organic and local. Olympia is a great place to live due to its proximity to so many organic farms! I just plain don't get along that well with people who don't also love food and treat their body well. And likewise I respect and get along great with anyone who does love food, eating yummy things, and good nutrition. I always have food on me, and where ever I go, I am equipped with several days worth of fruits, cheese, and nuts, so I never have to worry about food while on an un-planned, multi-day adventure.

I always look at potential food critically. Will this food be something that my body will want to use to maintain my flesh, or to power my muscles, or will it just be pooped out untouched? Will eating this harm me or help me? This is my way of saying I don't eat junk food or drink sodas, and I think it's silly how some people can eat stuff like that and be fine with it.

The way I see it, you are what you eat. And so if you eat an animal that lived its whole life in a cage or a box, your spirit will incorporate that beaten-down, subjugated and defeated animal's spirit just as much as your body will consume it's physical flesh. I am picky about what I eat, be it plant of animal. When I am to eat meat, which I don't do very often, I will be from a wild animal, a creature that lived free and died by a hunter's bullet or arrow; not an animal that lived in a fucking box. People who eat animals that lived in boxes, themselves grow to become animals living in boxes, to put it bluntly. The same goes for factory farmed bullshit fruits and vegetables. You are what you eat.

My Thoughts on Language:...
I strongly dislike the notion of prescriptive grammar (as opposed to descriptive grammar/linguistics). I think that the human experience is so vastly different from person to person, that it is to be expected that language should be different as well. Contextual nuances, regional differences in spelling, etc are a beautiful thing in my eyes, whereas the notion of being a linguistic 'purist' is repulsive to me. No person or group should, in my view, seek to tell other people to speak correctly. As long as meaning and ideas are able able to be transferred from one mind to another, the order or conjugation or style of speaking is purely dialectical and should be left alone.
